Earth Hour is a major global initiative held annually to raise awareness of environmental and climate change issues. On 23 March 2024 at 8.30 p.m. (Italian time), citizens, companies and entire cities are invited to switch off their lights for one hour as a sign of their commitment to safeguarding the planet. During these 60 minutes when the lights will be off, all people are invited to ‘give an hour for the Earth’ by doing something, anything, positive for our planet.

However, it must be stressed that, even outside this symbolic moment, it is essential to adopt daily practices that favour energy efficiency, particularly in lighting.

Lighting engineering is a discipline that deals with the study and optimisation of room lighting, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and minimising environmental impact. Thanks to continuous technological advances, there are now many highly efficient lighting solutions, such as LED lamps and lighting control systems that adapt to actual lighting needs.

Adopting efficient lighting practices not only saves energy and reduces CO2 emissions, but also helps to create more comfortable and healthy environments. Furthermore, investing in sustainable lighting solutions can lead to significant financial savings in the long run. This is why it is important to raise awareness of the importance of lighting efficiency not only during Earth Hour, but all year round, for a more sustainable and brighter future for all.
