The ‘Green Conditionality’ decree, signed by Environment and Energy Security Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, introduces new measures to promote energy efficiency and decarbonisation of energy-intensive companies. The measure, in line with the objectives of the PNRR and the European Green Deal, provides incentives to companies committed to reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions.
What does the decree envisage?
The decree is aimed at energy-intensive companies, i.e. those that consume large amounts of energy, and provides for access to economic benefits on condition that certain energy efficiency requirements are met. In particular, companies will have to:
- Reduce energy consumption: companies will have to demonstrate that they have implemented measures to reduce their energy consumption, for example through the adoption of more efficient technologies or the use of renewable sources.
- Improve plant efficiency: the decree incentivises investments to modernise production facilities and make them more energy efficient.
- Reducing CO2 emissions: companies will have to commit to reducing carbon dioxide emissions, contributing to the achievement of national decarbonisation targets.
What are the benefits for companies?
Companies that meet the requirements of the decree will be able to access various benefits, including:
- Economic incentives: non-repayable contributions and subsidised financing are provided for the implementation of energy efficiency measures.
- Administrative simplifications: the decree provides simplified procedures for obtaining the necessary authorisations for energy efficiency interventions.
- Competitive advantages: companies that invest in energy efficiency can improve their image and gain a competitive advantage in the market.
A step towards ecological transition
The ‘Green Conditionality’ decree is an important step towards the ecological transition of the Italian production system. By incentivising companies’ energy efficiency, the measure contributes to reducing dependence on fossil fuels, improving air quality and creating new opportunities for sustainable development.
