BNP Paribas’ Corporate Social Responsibility policy translates concretely into the promotion of practices and initiatives aimed at adopting environmentally sustainable attitudes. BNP Paribas has invested in improving the working environment of its employees in the insurance sector (BNP Paribas Cardif), who occupy an office area of around 5,000 square metres. Thanks to the solutions offered by Quantum, it has achieved a 70% reduction in electricity consumption for lighting (minus 160 Megawatt-hours per year), a reduction in CO2 emissions (minus 30 tonnes of oil equivalent burned per year), and the creation of new ‘green lungs’ (more than 3,000 equivalent trees per year).
Between the ‘off/on’ modes of a normal switch, there are infinite nuances of energy savings that result simply from a rational use of light: where it is needed, when it is needed and how it is needed. The starting point is the replacement of old luminaires in use with new LED solutions connected to the Internet, without introducing changes to the wiring of the existing electrical system. Then, thanks to the use of sensors and application software, it is possible to remotely manage via the Internet and dynamically and independently adjust the intensity of each individual light point, customising the intervention according to the size of the space, the exposure to natural light, the inclination of the sun’s rays during the day (but also throughout the year), the possible cycle of work activities, and even the weather forecast.
An important project for the city of Milan. The implementation of 10 such projects would have an impact on the environment equivalent to zero emissions and consumption for over 1,000 households. Multiplying the environmental benefits obtained by replicating the virtuous model of the BNP Paribas project will enable the offer of better services, the dissemination of the Energy Efficiency culture, and attention to the conscious and socially responsible use of our planet’s resources’.
